Non-affiliation notice
This notice is load-bearing and applies to every page of this site.
MetalsForASteel.com is an independent reference publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, connected to or acting on behalf of Boone Steel LLC, or any other metal supplier, distributor, service centre, stockholder, mill or manufacturer. The domain formerly hosted an online metal storefront operated by that company; that operation ceased on this domain and the company continues to trade separately under its own name, at its own address and through its own website. This site has no ownership, commercial, contractual or promotional relationship with it.
Nothing on this site is a statement by or about any company's current products, stock, capabilities, prices, availability or terms. Any reference to that former connection appears solely to make this disclaimer clear. No trade marks, service marks or trade names of any third party are used here to indicate origin, sponsorship or approval; where such a name appears it is for identification only.
Terms of use
This site is provided as a free reference. By using it you accept the following.
- No commercial function. The site sells nothing, holds no stock, issues no quotations and accepts no orders. It contains no facility to transact and no facility to make an enquiry that would reach a supplier.
- Information only. Content is general reference information about metal forms, grades and processes. It is not engineering advice, not a specification, and not a substitute for a qualified professional assessment of a specific application.
- No warranty. Content is provided as-is, without warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose. Dimensional series, gauge conversions, grade designations, tolerances and process limits are given for orientation, are approximate, and change over time.
- Standards govern. Where this site and a published standard differ, the standard governs. The applicable ASTM, SAE, AISI, ASME or equivalent document is the authority for any specification, and a mill test report is the only certification that applies to a specific piece of material.
- Safety. Metal fabrication involves powered cutting and forming equipment, sharp edges, heavy loads, hot work and airborne contaminants. Nothing here substitutes for the equipment manufacturer's instructions, the applicable workplace safety regulations, or competent supervision.
- External links. Links to third-party sites are provided because they are useful. Those sites are not under this site's control and no responsibility is accepted for their content.
- Limitation of liability. No liability is accepted for any loss or damage arising from reliance on the content of this site, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Editorial policy
Content is written independently. No page is sponsored, no product is recommended by brand, and no supplier has any input into what appears here. Where a material or process has a genuine weakness, the weakness is stated. Where a figure is approximate, it is described as approximate.
Grade designations used on this site — A36, C1018, 1045, 4140, 12L14, 1215, 304, 316, 430, 6061, 6063, 5052, 3003, A2, O1, W1, D2, C360, C260 — are standard alloy designations published by standards bodies. They are not brand names and are used in their ordinary technical sense.
Privacy
This site is a set of static reference pages. It has no accounts, no login, no cart, no contact form and no newsletter, and it therefore asks for and stores no personal information. Nothing is collected because there is nothing here that collects.
Standard web server request logging may occur at the hosting layer, as it does for any website. No advertising network, tracking pixel or behavioural profiling script is embedded in these pages.
More about the scope and purpose of the reference is on the about page; the full page index is on the site map.
